Strawberry Pretzel Salad
Preztels and strawberries? Hmm...sounds interesting, but then when you really stop to think about it, on one hand we get sweetness from the strawberries, and on the other hand we get the salt and crunch from the pretzels. The more I start to imagine these two flavors together, the more likely I am starting to think that this combination is in fact genius!
If you have never made a strawberry pretzel salad, which is really more like a cake, you will be pleasantly surprised and how easy the recipe is and how satisfying the combination. It is great for potlucks.
The basic recipe in the coming website calls for Cool Whip and Jello but you can absolutely make a recipe instead for a stabilized whipping cream and if you are health conscious I would try adding gelatin powder instead of the strawberry jello, but this is untested at this point, so do it at your own risk. The pretzels are broken up and baked in a pan to make a delicious and salty crust. This is then topped with a delicious cream cheese/whipping cream kind of combination and then finished with the gelatin strawberry. This recipe is such a hit in fact that it actually may be quite delicious with other fruits as well. Hmm...how about peaches or mango? You can really get creative with this combination and you will find that it is a very quick and easy recipe to whip up at the last minute.
For the history buffs out there, did you know that in the United States there is a 'National Pretzel Day'? The folded nature of the pretzel is said to have symbolic meaning related to the folded hands of prayer. Original pretzels would have been a bread mixture that is baked and enjoyed more like a bread than a snack.
Well, enjoy! The link to the recipe is found on the Relative Taste website below.
