Chicken Lo Mein
Ni hao ma! *bows* Are you ready for another long-life meal? *winks* “Oh yeah! Give it to me!” Most certainly! Chicken Lo Mein will not only bring you the sky, but you'll also have the long-aspired long life. *winks* That is according to the myth though. Anyway, long life or not, it wouldn’t deny us the lusciousness of Chicken Lo Mein. Well, before we attack this Asian dish, we should let Lo Mein information attack us first. So, are you on for a short introduction about Lo Mein? “Oh yeah! Bring it to me!” Oh yes! Let’s do this! *smiles*
Lo Mein, according to Wikipedia, is a “Chinese dish with wheat flour noodles.” The term ‘Lo Mein’ comes from the Cantonese term 'lōu mihn' which means ‘stirred noodles’. Lo Mein also contains vegetables and some type of meat or seafood, usually beef, chicken, pork, shrimp or wontons. As you can see in this recipe, Lo Mein contains chicken. Vegetable are sometimes eaten with it too. As stated in Wikipedia, Lo Mein is a variation of Wonton noodle soup, a Cantonese noodle dish. “The soup is simply separated from the noodles and other ingredients, and served on the side.”
Lo Mein is famous as a takeout dish in American Chinese restaurants. “In this setting, Lo Mein noodles are usually stirred with a sauce made from soy sauce and other seasonings.” Bok Choy and cabbage are often added to it with meat. Shrimp Lo Mein, Lobster Lo Mein, Vegetable Lo Mein, and ‘House’ Lo Mein are also served. In North America, Lo Mein is sometimes labeled as Chow Mein. “However, the two are prepared differently. Chow Mein is fried to varying degrees of crispness, while Lo Mein is kept soft.” So that also explains the difference between Lo Mein and Chow Mein.
