There are three steps to this Texas turtle sheet cake recipe from the cake part of the recipe, the chocolate frosting recipe, and the delicious turtle topping recipe. For the chocolate frosting recipe you will need butter, buttermilk, unsweetened cocoa and powdered sugar, For the turtle topping recipe you will need some chopped pecans, semi sweet chocolate chips and some caramel sauce to drizzle. Chocolate turtles are one of those things we usually only get at Christmas time, their rich caramel filled, chocolate covered pecans are popular wherever they go. Turtles brand candy was developed by the Johnson's candy company in 1918 after one of the salesman came into the commissary's dipping room and showed the chocolate covered treat to one of the dippers, who then posted out the chocolate candy looked like a turtle. It wasn't long afterwards that the Johnson's candy company was making the same kind of chocolate candy and selling them under the name Turtles.
